Dot's - A Love Story

Quite a long time ago, maybe 30 some years, a young man and women found themselves getting acquainted through a mutual friend during a study session for a 200 level ecology college class that neither of them should have been in since he was a graduate student and she was a senior. After several group adventures they found themselves, just the 2 of them, at a movie. He offered to buy a treat and she chose Dots. She discovered later that he didn’t like dots even though he ate a few at the time. She couldn’t finish the candy and possibly accidentally or maybe not, left the box in his car. Luckily or fortunately or possibly fate, she was able to ride in that car enough times to finish that candy and then restock it several more times. As a side note this all occurred the fall semester in Fairbanks, AK and she discovered she liked Dots frozen the best. Also during that first study session she noticed the young man had a few grays in his black hair so she assumed because of that and because he was a grad student that he was probably at least 30. Later she heard that because it was a sophomore class he assumed she was 19. It turns out they were both 23 and she is 6 months older. And it turned out that they are still going to movies together all these years later and occasionally he buys her Dots and she puts what she can’t finish in the freezer.

Not so long ago I was challenged to make a "artz" quilt using the theme suggestion of "dots". This reminded me of our Dots candy story and then I came up with this wallhanging using dot batiks with raw-edge collage and watercolor pencil illustrated "Dots".
